Raketa Watch Factory helps to restore the clock of Notre Dame Cathedral damaged in fire

Raketa Watch Factory experts help the French Horloge Notre-Dame association to restore the giant clock of the Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral destroyed by fire.

The devastating fire in the Paris cathedral caused a great concern about its giant clock that suffered among Raketa watchmakers in Russia, which is yet another testimony to close cultural and historical links between these two countries.

A special association was established to reconstruct the clock. However, the manufacturing know-how for such huge clocks has been lost in France. Hearing about the incident, Raketa specialists immediately joined the association to offer their contribution to this noble cause. The Raketa Watch Factory had previously developed and manufactured the world’s largest movement integrated in a giant clock in the atrium of the Central Children’s Store on Lubyanka, Moscow. The 4.5-ton piece is 6 by 7 meters in size and consists of over 5,000 gold plated parts made of steel, aluminum, and titanium.

Raketa engineers have already started studying the design of the Notre Dame clock movement to figure out which parts could be developed at the St. Petersburg Raketa Watch Factory.

The Notre Dame clock is much more than just an antique clock. “It is the soul of the cathedral, a living mechanism whose parts have been moving tirelessly, counting time through the ages. The clock must definitely be reconstructed!”, Raketa specialists say.

The Raketa watchmakers pride themselves on helping France to restore a part of the world historical heritage. Their French colleagues, in turn, say they are grateful to the Raketa team for their commitment to this great cause.
