Raketa “Copernicus”
Raketa presents a new version of its well-known Copernicus which was initially developed in 1965. The model honours Nicolaus Copernicus, the astronomer who revolutionized the 16th century science by proving that the Earth revolves around the Sun and not the other way round, as previously thought.
The new Raketa Copernicus, with its dial and hands designed as planets revolving around the Sun, pays tribute to the great scientist while at the same time offering a poetic interpretation of the Cosmos. The dial is made of aventurine, a stone that looks like a starry sky, while the Sun is represented in the centre with a circle of agate stone.
This model brings us back to the origins of time reading by looking at the celestial bodies, as our ancestors did. To read the time, you will need to watch the planet-shaped hands move and identify their position relative to the Sun and to each other, enjoying this incredible cosmic dance against myriads of sparkling stars in the background.
The idea behind the initial Raketa Copernicus design, back in the 1960s, was that the larger circle (the minute hand) symbolises the Earth and the smaller circle (the hour hand) Jupiter. These two planets were chosen because the Earth revolves around the Sun in 1 year, and Jupiter in 12 years, which is the same speed ratio as for the minute and hour hands (taking 1 hour and 12 hours, respectively, to revolve around the dial).
A Milanese mesh bracelet emphasises the beauty and elegance of the model.
The back of the watch reveals the beautifully decorated automatic movement which is entirely produced by the Raketa Watch Factory in Saint-Petersburg.
