Russia has always been at the avant garde: in its art, music and science. It has always been a nation that has done things differently. When Malevich painted his Black Square at the beginning of the 20th century, it sparked a furious controversy: was this bizarre painting even art? In destroying all the classic traditions, Malevich created a new artistic expression that has since then influenced all modern art. And in the sixties, while everybody’s thinking was grounded in the confines of their Earthly reality, Russia shocked everyone, by building a rocket, putting a man inside it, and sending it to space, opening a whole new dimension to our civilisation.
We are continuing Russia’s pioneering tradition in avant-garde and Raketa’s tradition of dabbling with the unconventional, by making watches with triangular hands, counter-clockwise movements, Big zeros and experimental designs.
Behind the discreet and elegant design lies the revolutionary concept that time should move in harmony with the natural counterclockwise movement of all the planets in our Solar System. Therefore, the hands of the “Russian code” rotate in a reverse direction around the dial, just like the planets around the Sun.
Three main avant-garde colours – red, white, and black – combined with the austere geometry of hands and fonts help emphasise the beauty and uniqueness of each moment. Even a quick glance at your wrist will remind you of this, revealing each time a new art composition on the dial.
This model brings us back to the origins of time reading by looking at the celestial bodies, as our ancestors did. To read the time, you will need to watch the planet-shaped hands move and identify their position relative to the Sun and to each other, enjoying this incredible cosmic dance against myriads of sparkling stars in the background.
