A unique sound

Raketa’s mechanical movement is very Russian by its engineering design. It is also very Russian by the materials used: all the metal as well as the 24 rubis stones of the movement come from Russia. Even the hair-spring, the very heart and most complicated part of the movement, is cast from a secret Soviet alloy. All of this gives a very distinctive acoustic signature that is quite different from that of Swiss movements.

This is the recording of a movement not yet assembled in the watch case. Once assembled in the case, the sound will be slightly different.

24 hour watches

The iconic Raketa 24-hour movement was first engineered by the Raketa Watch Factory in 1970 for Soviet polar explorers. It allowed them to tell the time in regions where it is difficult to distinguish night from day. Since then, its use was extended to other professionals working in similar conditions, such as submariners, cosmonauts & Russian pilots.

A naval tradition

Located in Saint-Petersburg on the shores of the Baltic Sea, the Raketa Watch Factory always had a tradition of making watches for Soviet seamen and submariners. Living underwater for many months, Soviet submarine crews needed a sturdy watch with a robust 24-hour movement to allow them to distinguish day from night. To this day, Raketa continues the tradition of producing specialised watches for submariners.
